Radio Revelations Part I – Genes, Santana, and the 5-Station Hypothesis

I’m in the car a lot.  I think we’ve already established that fact longggg ago.  I love music, and usually have music playing wherever I am.  Thus, I listen to a lot of radio.  Radio makes me think about a whole host of things, which I will share with you.  Feel free to laugh at me.  I won’t mind, I will never find out.

1) On GENES.  My dad is a chronic channel surfer.  He can watch three movies or tv shows at once, flipping endlessly between them and driving everyone else crazy.  I think I inherited the channel surfing gene, but since I don’t have the time or interest to watch tv, the gene expresses itself through my radio habits.  I can barely stay on one station long enough to listen to one song, before I am changing to another station.  For this reason, I could tell you several good radio stations in most areas of Southern California.  Also, constantly pushing buttons keeps me awake.  This is a good thing.

2) On SANTANA.  I think Santana only knows one or two guitar sequences, and just has other artists sing with him so the songs sound different.

3) The 5-Station Hypothesis.  There are certain places in this state where not many radio stations come through.  These places are mostly in the central valley and in the desert where I’m too far away to pick up LA stations.  I have a hypothesis that in these forlorn places where only cows and jackrabbits live, there are usually about 5 clear radio stations, and they are as follows: 2 are country music [gag me… sorry Hillary, I still don’t like it]; 2 are Spanish stations [no comprendo]; and 1 is smooth jazz [a corollary to the 5-Station Hypothesis is that smooth jazz radio stations across the state are 94.7].

More radio revelations to follow.

Except that here in Springfield, 94.7FM is your favorite: Country! Yep, sorry to disprove your hypothesis.

And–even though I don’t usually like country–I do like it on road trips. So you should at least give it a try.

Congrats on your budget! Keep us posted.

Country needs to die the death of a thousand criminals. You should get an ipod Lauren. Actually, I have a “shuffle” you can have – I never use it. That way you can stay awake and who knows? You might actually enjoy your trips in the desert 😀
