Guns Everywhere! …water guns, that is.

This week is SONGKRAN, the Thai New Year festival that is celebrated with water fights!  With highs of 104+ degrees, the water (often) comes as a refreshing cool-down.  I’ve posted two videos you can check out here and here.

We drove around the moat in Chiang Mai on the back of pickup trucks. There were about eight people in our truck, and we had 4 big barrels of water that we threw at people going by.  Of course people were throwing water right back, and using water guns to spray everyone.  When we ran out of water, a few guys in our truck filled up the buckets with water from the moat.  Mmm, nice and dirty, of course.  Some people had ice in their barrels, so the water they threw was very, very, VERY cold.  Even though it was 104 degrees outside, we did feel cold, soaked to the core with water and more water and more and more water water water!  It took a long time to dry out too.  It was quite the new year experience!
