Thanks, No Thanks Google Maps

I use Google Maps frequently. Maybe every day. But here in Thailand—is it this way in America?—I have to take Google Maps with a grain of salt. What looks like a road on Google might not be a road in real life. A restaurant or shop might be on the other side of the street, or a block down, or across town. Once on a bike ride I trusted Google and ended up on a dirt+rock road that was so bumpy that my tire pump bounced off my bike into the wilderness. Then once I was driving in my truck and Google instructed me to go straight, but I faced this:

barbed wire 1

barbed wire 2

Sorry Google, my truck cannot go through that barbed wire. Or at least I do not want to try it.

The Holy Spirit gives us directions. Sometimes (ok usually) we only get direction for one step at a time, but sometimes we get to see the next several steps ahead of us. At times, it seems like the Holy Spirit leads us to “roads” that don’t feel like roads—“Am I really supposed to be here?” or “Isn’t this path too rough for me to handle? Will it result in loss?”

Or we are led to what look like barriers in the path—“I can’t go through that” or “I can’t get around that, there must be some other way.” But we must remind ourselves: unlike my pickup facing the barbed wire, the Holy Spirit IS able to get us through any obstacle that is in our way. His power is able, and He is more than willing to do it. We must trust His direction, even if it looks obscure or impossible. Because for God, all things are possible!

(Happened again in another city, dirt path instead of a paved road!)
